ABSTRACT
This study aims to analyze the role of the principal in managing the school literacy program at MIN 1 Bondowoso. This research used a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. Data collection techniques included interviews, observations, and documentation involving the principal and teachers as research informants. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the principal plays an important role in managing the literacy program through three main aspects: planning, implementation, and evaluation. In the planning stage, the principal integrates the literacy program into the school work plan and coordinates with teachers. In the implementation stage, literacy activities are carried out through 15-minute reading habits, the use of reading corners, and the utilization of the school library. In the evaluation stage, the principal monitors and evaluates the program together with teachers to improve its effectiveness. Therefore, the principal’s leadership plays a crucial role in developing a literacy culture in elementary schools.
