Abstract

ABSTRACT

Mathematics is an important subject with many applications in everyday life, but many students, including elementary school students, experience difficulties in learning it. This study aims to examine in depth Jean Piaget's cognitive development and its implications for learning mathematics at the elementary school level. Using a qualitative approach with a literature study method, the data sources of this research come from books, journals, and relevant research results. Data were collected through online search and analyzed using content analysis method. The results showed that according to Piaget's cognitive development theory, elementary school students are generally at the concrete operational stage, so the recommended mathematics learning is student-centered and active, such as discovery and contextual learning methods.

ABSTRAK

Matematika merupakan mata pelajaran penting dengan banyak penerapan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, namun banyak siswa, termasuk siswa sekolah dasar, mengalami kesulitan dalam mempelajarinya. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji secara mendalam perkembangan kognitif Jean Piaget serta implikasinya terhadap pembelajaran matematika di tingkat sekolah dasar. Menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi literatur, sumber data penelitian ini berasal dari buku, jurnal, dan hasil penelitian yang relevan. Data dikumpulkan melalui pencarian online dan dianalisis menggunakan metode content analysis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa menurut teori perkembangan kognitif Piaget, siswa sekolah dasar umumnya berada pada tahap operasional konkret, sehingga pembelajaran matematika yang disarankan adalah yang berpusat pada siswa dan aktif, seperti metode pembelajaran penemuan dan kontekstal..
